My Beloved

A friend from church asked me to make a scarf for a woman who is a friend of ours at church. The only input she’d given was that she looked good in teal, burnt orange, and rust.

The day I went to make the scarf, I plopped down on my couch, picked up my Bible and asked the Lord what He wanted to say to this woman.

He took me to Song of Solomon 4:1 – 5:1:

Behold, thou art fair, my love; behold, thou art fair; thou hast doves’ eyes within thy locks: thy hair is as a flock of goats, that appear from mount Gilead. Thy teeth are like a flock of sheep that are even shorn, which came up from the washing; whereof every one bear twins, and none is barren among them. Thy lips are like a thread of scarlet, and thy speech is comely: thy temples are like a piece of a pomegranate within thy locks. Thy neck is like the tower of David builded for an armoury, whereon there hang a thousand bucklers, all shields of mighty men. Thy two breasts are like two young roes that are twins, which feed among the lilies. Until the day break, and the shadows flee away, I will get me to the mountain of myrrh, and to the hill of frankincense.

Thou art all fair, my love; there is no spot in thee. Come with me from Lebanon, my spouse, with me from Lebanon: look from the top of Amana, from the top of Shenir and Hermon, from the lions’ dens, from the mountains of the leopards. Thou hast ravished my heart, my sister, my spouse; thou hast ravished my heart with one of thine eyes, with one chain of thy neck.

How fair is thy love, my sister, my spouse! how much better is thy love than wine! and the smell of thine ointments than all spices! Thy lips, O my spouse, drop as the honeycomb: honey and milk are under thy tongue; and the smell of thy garments is like the smell of Lebanon. garden inclosed is my sister, my spouse; a spring shut up, a fountain sealed. Thy plants are an orchard of pomegranates, with pleasant fruits; camphire, with spikenard, Spikenard and saffron; calamus and cinnamon, with all trees of frankincense; myrrh and aloes, with all the chief spices: A fountain of gardens, a well of living waters, and streams from Lebanon.

Awake, O north wind; and come, thou south; blow upon my garden, that the spices thereof may flow out. Let my beloved come into his garden, and eat his pleasant fruits.

I am come into my garden, my sister, my spouse: I have gathered my myrrh with my spice; I have eaten my honeycomb with my honey; I have drunk my wine with my milk: eat, O friends; drink, yea, drink abundantly, O beloved.

I could feel the deep, woo-ing love the Lord was wanting to speak to her… so I asked Him, “What is the scarf’s name?” He said “My Beloved“. So I asked Him – “Lord, what does it look like?” He showed me a vision of her in a red scarf. I thought to myself, “that’s not teal, burnt orange or rust!” I tried calling my friend to confirm the color change was ok, but wasn’t able to reach her. Knowing what she would tell me – I followed the Lord’s leadings.

The scarf was maroon (spilled blood), red wine representing (new wine), and bits of white representing (His holiness).

That evening when I saw my friend and brought the scarf – I told her the passages the Lord had taken me to. She just started screaming! Apparently, for over a year she’d been encouraging the woman to get lost in Song of Solomon so she could really understand how deeply the Lord loved her!

I got to watch as she gave her the scarf and the woman simply began to weep – she was so moved by the Lord’s word for her. When she came to thank me – she told me that when she’d first seen my red scarf named “Deep Love”, she had told God she wanted one like that… a red scarf that meant something “love”. He knew her heart’s desire and it was His heart for her too.
