I know many of you would love to have a Dyed4you Throw but simply can’t afford to get one. So for those of you who sew, I wanted to put together a quick how-to for the Fur and the Furry Mink Fleece throws. This means you can just special order the silk charmeuse (which comes with a word) for one side and then you can sew it yourself!
Furry Mink Fleece Throw
What you’ll need:
- 2 yards of the 55″ wide special order D4Y silk charmeuse
- 2 yards furry mink fleece (I typically use chocolate, but Fabrics.com has a variety of colors)
- Matching thread
You will have to decide which side you want facing out on the furry mink fleece. One side is longer pile than the other – personally I prefer the shorter side out (and it sheds less), but I have done it both ways (in the picturesbelow the brown one is long side out and the red one is short side out).
Instructions:
- Lay your fleece out flat with the side you want on the outside facing up
- Lay the silk (shiny side down) on top of it
- Pin 3 sides leaving one short side unpinned
- Trim edges where the fabrics are different sizes (OPTIONAL – if you don’t do this it adds a little bulk inside, but not too much)
- Sew the 3 edges (the slippery surface of the silk tends to move around a bit so the pins are KEY and you will have to be careful to be sure they don’t slide around)
Flip the throw inside out so seams are now inside
- Fold in the two remaining sides and pin carefully (see picture below)
- Do one clean seam along the outer edge (see picture to right)
- Enjoy!
Fur (faux) Throw
What you’ll need:
- 2 yards of the 55″ wide special order D4Y silk charmeuse
- 2 yards of black fleece
- 2 yards of faux fur (I use black, but Fabric.com has a variety of colors)
- Matching thread
Instructions:
Lay your fleece out flat
- Lay the fur (fur-side up) on top of it
- Lay the silk (shiny side down) on top of it
- Pin 3 sides leaving one short side unpinned
- Trim edges where the fabrics are different sizes (OPTIONAL – if you don’t do this it adds a little bulk inside, but not too much)
- Sew the 3 edges (the slippery surface of the silk tends to move around a bit so the pins are KEY and you will have to be careful to be sure they don’t slide around)
- Flip the throw inside out (so the fur and silk are on the outsides) so seams are now inside
Fold in the two remaining sides and pin carefully (see pictures to right)
- Do one clean seam along the outer edge
- Enjoy!
